Florida Minimum Car Insurance (PD $10,000)

Use the calculator to see how Florida's minimum limits would apply to a hypothetical injury bill and property-damage bill.

Estimate how much the legal minimum would cover

Enter two hypothetical bills and tap Calculate. The result appears in the green box directly under the button. It also updates as you type. Nothing you enter is collected or sent anywhere.

Results will appear here after you choose a state and enter the two bills.

This tool is an estimate for education only. It is not legal advice, not an insurance quote, and not a prediction of what a court, insurer, or claims adjuster would pay. Coverage rules, statutes, and case law change. Read the official source linked on this page. Nothing you type into the calculator is collected or sent anywhere; the math runs in your browser.

Key takeaways

  • Florida liability snapshot: $10,000 property-damage liability (bodily-injury liability not generally required).
  • Florida is a no-fault state. Personal injury protection is required; bodily-injury liability is not generally required of private-passenger owners.
  • The estimate assumes you are the at-fault driver and one other person was injured.
  • Read the official source; this is not legal advice.

What Florida requires

Florida does not generally require private-passenger drivers to buy bodily-injury liability insurance. What the statutes do require is $10,000 of property-damage liability (Fla. Stat. § 324.022) and $10,000 of personal injury protection medical and disability benefits plus a $5,000 death benefit (Fla. Stat. § 627.736). If you injure someone, your PIP does not pay that person's liability claim against you. The gap shown in this calculator for a Florida injury bill is therefore the full injury amount unless you separately bought bodily-injury liability.

Required PIP / no-fault of $10,000 (PIP medical and disability benefits of $10,000 plus a $5,000 death benefit (Fla. Stat. § 627.736, 2026). PIP pays your own injuries first-party; it is not a substitute for the other person's bodily-injury liability claim against you.)

Bodily-injury liability is not generally required in Florida. Do not treat older industry tables that list Florida as 10/20/10 as current BI requirements.

A common way to write split limits is BI / BI / PD. The first number is bodily injury per person, the second is bodily injury for everyone hurt in one crash, and the third is property damage. This calculator's injury example uses only the per-person number because it assumes one injured person.

FAQ

What is the minimum car insurance in Florida?

The primary source cited on this page states that Florida requires $10,000 property-damage liability (bodily-injury liability not generally required). In addition, required PIP / no-fault of $10,000 (PIP medical and disability benefits of $10,000 plus a $5,000 death benefit (Fla. Stat. § 627.736, 2026). PIP pays your own injuries first-party; it is not a substitute for the other person's bodily-injury liability claim against you.). Always read the official source because statutes and department guidance can change.

Does Florida's minimum cover my own injuries or my own car?

Liability coverage pays people you injure or whose property you damage. It does not pay your own medical bills or repair your own car. This state does require first-party PIP or no-fault benefits for your own injuries ($10,000 in the figure we verified). Collision and comprehensive are separate optional coverages.

What if medical or repair bills are higher than the minimum?

Because Florida does not generally require bodily-injury liability, the injury-bill gap in this calculator is the full injury amount unless you bought optional BI coverage. Property damage is compared with the $10,000 PD minimum.

Is uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage required in Florida?

The sources we opened for the liability limits did not state that UM is a mandatory statewide coverage in the same way liability is. Offer-and-rejection rules vary; read the official source.

How does this calculator work?

You enter a hypothetical injury bill for one other person and a hypothetical property-damage bill. The script, running only in your browser, compares those bills with the verified per-person BI limit and PD limit and shows the covered amount and the leftover gap. It does not send your numbers to our servers.

Is this legal advice or an insurance quote?

No. This Florida page and calculator are general information based on the official source cited below, reviewed November 7, 2026. They are not a quote and not advice about your claim or what limits you should buy.
